China's supply & demand of CRC market expected to stay on low side

In April, the capacity utilization of 29 steel mills, which produce cold-rolled coil (CRC) in China, reached 83.56%, and weekly output came to about 846,000 tons, a month-on-month increase of 43,000 tons. Meanwhile, the production of local mills' was high, and the speed of destocking in April was slower than that in March.
In terms of the outlook, it is estimated that the steel inventory in May should be reduced slightly, and orders received by steel mills are mainly specific grades, while ordinary grades are in short supply. Regarding demand by the automobile industry, the current order of electric vehicles in May is normal without an increase plan. However, the production capacity of fuel vehicles is not good, and its main goal in the first half of 2023 is still to eliminate stock.
In summary, the CRC supply in May could be reduced, but actual demand has not improved significantly.
