Mexico expects to conclude USMCA negotiations before October to protect Mexican exports to US
Mexico aims to conclude negotiations on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) between September and October of this year, focusing on defining agreements in key sectors such as steel, aluminum, and the automotive industry.
The Mexican government considers the fourth round of negotiations a priority to solidify its competitive advantages against other markets.
The Mexican administration's main objective is to maintain preferential treatment and protect its exports from the tariff measures implemented by Donald Trump. Currently, 85% of its shipments to the United States are exempt from the new international tariffs under the USMCA.
During the first half of the year, Mexico achieved a trade surplus of US$10 billion, its best result in 35 years, making it an export powerhouse.
