British Steel participates in research on environmentally friendly low-carbon emission fuels

Jingye Group's British Steel has participated in a project to study the use of environmentally friendly, low-carbon emission fuels. This study investigated whether biochar fuel could replace injection coal in blast furnaces as a clean carbon source for electric arc furnaces.
British peatlands help grow food, but rotting peat soil emits large amounts of carbon dioxide. However, willows act as biomass to prevent peatland degradation. Therefore, British Steel plans to use the peatland as a sustainable wetland to plant willow trees to produce biochar. This biochar could potentially replace coal, reducing the use of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide emissions.
British Steel believes the research could not only provide sustainable fuels to the industrial sector but also provide environmental benefits.
