Vietnam's crude steel output beats Taiwan's in 2023

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) data showed 2023 global crude steel output totaled 1.8882 billion tons. Taiwan ranked 13th with 18.9 million tons while Vietnam stood at 12th with 19 million tons.
Chien-Chih Hwang, Executive Vice President of Taiwan's China Steel Corporation (CSC) said it is the trend that Vietnam's crude steel output figure to pass over Taiwan, but whether Vietnam's local demand to consume the output would be essential for Vietnam's steel industry outlook.
Taiwan is a developed country with higher steel consumption per person, and the steel industry must not focus on production growth but emphasize high value-added product development.
The geopolitical issue leading to a 3rd production site out of China and Taiwan from customers in the US and Europe had been cultivating Vietnam as a good target base, so the crude steel output in Vietnam getting bigger and bigger is just reasonable.
