AISI intends to maintain Section 232 tariffs

The United States currently imposes 25% and 10% tariffs on steel and aluminum products respectively, which were established by Section 232 during Trump's 2018 period.

Regarding this trade protectionist business policy, many people expect to eliminate it with the advent of the Biden administration. In addition, there is now the new U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo (Gina Raimondo).

However, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), one of the leading steel organizations in the United States, has shown its own attitude in this regard. AISI expects the Biden administration to maintain Article 232 to avoid existing unfair competition worldwide.

The unfair competition referred to by AISI mainly refers to the subsidiaries of various governments promoting their steel plants to help their steel exports. On the other hand, AISI also pointed out the severe situation of steel overcapacity worldwide, which is one of the main reasons for retaining section 232.
